Adobe Labs has announced Camera Raw 5.4 release candidate on the Adobe website for support of 18 Hasselblad digital cameras using 3FR. The release candidate status means the software is stable and ready for user testing, but is not the final release version. The download is here

Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS now join Apple Aperture as mainstream image applications that can develop the Hasselblad 3FR file, a 16-bit RAW format used in both H3D DSLR systems and CF-digital backs.

Hasselblad equipment supported:

  • Hasselblad CF-22
  • Hasselblad CF-22MS
  • Hasselblad CF-39
  • Hasselblad CF-39MS
  • Hasselblad CFH-22
  • Hasselblad CFH-39
  • Hasselblad CFV
  • Hasselblad 503CWD
  • Hasselblad H2D-22
  • Hasselblad H2D-39
  • Hasselblad H3D-22
  • Hasselblad H3D-31
  • Hasselblad H3D-39
  • Hasselblad H3DII-22
  • Hasselblad H3DII-31
  • Hasselblad H3DII-39
  • Hasselblad H3DII-39MS
  • Hasselblad H3DII-50

Hotwire-Digital will publish test results of the new Camera Raw 5.4 in the Hands-on Reviews section in the following weeks and compare with processing from Hasselblad's RAW developer application - Phocus.

Existing FFF files are not compatible with this plug-in version and users who wish to integrate into Lightroom workflow can choose to export as DNG from Phocus, or create a hot folder to perform this action.

Additionally, an updated DNG Converter 5.4 is included and signals the upcoming change in the DNG specification - more on this will be covered in a future article.
